Mr. President Donald Trump, ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests,
Gratitude and Renewed Hope
- On behalf of the Congolese people, I feel deep gratitude and clear hope after signing the Washington agreements for peace and prosperity.
- Solemn thanks to President Trump, his administration, and the American people for their critical role in rapprochement between the DRC and Rwanda.
- Thanks also to regional and international partners, including:
- Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad
- President João Lourenço (Angola and acting AU President)
- Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta—for initiating the Luanda and Nairobi processes
Significance of the Washington Agreements
- These are not just another document—they mark a turning point.
- They combine under one coherent framework:
- A declaration of principles
- A peace agreement
- A regional economic integration framework
- They offer a new perspective: ending cycles of violence, displacement, and mistrust; ushering in friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
DRC Commitments and Expectations
- The DRC solemnly commits to sincere, serious, and rigorous implementation, prioritizing peace, security, unity, and territorial integrity.
- We expect Rwanda to honor the letter and spirit of the accords with equal seriousness.
- We seek cooperation based on:
- Mutual respect
- Non-interference
- Joint struggle against armed groups
- Ending support for negative forces
- Fair prosperity for both populations
Outlook for the Future
- Today begins a demanding but transformative path where peace becomes reality.
- The DRC will act with dignity, consistency, vigilance, and resolute optimism.
- These agreements must symbolize an irreversible shift from confrontation to sustainable regional peace.
Thank you.
